The numbered hexagon system made this way easier than I expected for someone who hasn't touched a spirograph since childhood. I finished the whole Mona Lisa in two evenings and the shading actually looks intentional, not like a mess of overlapping loops.
The numbered hexagon system made it surprisingly easy to create something that actually looks like the Mona Lisa. I spent a relaxing afternoon matching each shape and was impressed by the final result.
I've never been able to draw anything recognizable, so watching the Mona Lisa actually appear as I matched each hexagon to its number was kind of surreal. The grid keeps everything lined up, and about two hours in I had something I'd actually hang on my wall.
